Our work in North Reading

Fieldstone walls, granite steps, and a paver pool deck.

In 2017 we built the hardscape around a new pool in North Reading. Round fieldstone retaining walls wrap the pool, granite steps pass through the wall, and pavers form the deck around the water.

We have built walkways here too. Dan's family picked terracotta as the closest color to what they had in mind; with gray brick mixed in and the walk laid in curves, they say it turned out exactly as they wanted. His note is below.

The photos follow the job from the first stones going in to the finished deck, so you can see how the walls are built, not just how they look at the end.

North Reading sits just north of Reading, a short drive up from our yard in Woburn. We are a family-owned company with over 30 years in the trade, fully insured, and we stand behind our work with a guarantee. Google reviewers rate us 4.6 out of 5 across 41 reviews, and the estimate visit costs nothing.

Fieldstone and granite in North Reading

4.6Google rating, from 41 reviews
I wanted to send a quick note to tell you how absolutely delighted we are with our new walkway! We couldn’t be happier. It’s exactly what we wanted! We picked terracotta as it was the closest to what we had in mind for a color thinking it would not be exactly what we wanted but it would be nice. It turned out (with the grey bricks mixed on) to be exactly what we wanted; especially with the curves and look of it. Also, we were very impressed with the professionalism and good customer service that we received from everyone that we dealt with. …

North Reading FAQ

North Reading walls, walks and permits

01Do you work in North Reading?

Yes. North Reading is just north of Reading and a short drive from our Woburn yard. Our work here includes a pool area with fieldstone walls and granite steps (2017) and a curved walkway for a North Reading family.

02My yard slopes toward the pool. What kind of wall holds it?

On the North Reading job, round fieldstone retaining walls hold the grade around the pool, with granite steps set through the wall. Segmental block is the other common choice. The right one depends on the wall height, what the wall holds back and the look you want. Our retaining walls page compares them.

03Does work near wetlands in North Reading need approval?

It can. Under the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, work in or near wetlands, ponds and streams is reviewed by the town's Conservation Commission. The Ipswich River runs through North Reading, so if your yard is near water or wet ground, ask the Conservation Commission early, before the design is settled.

04How do I pick a walkway color that suits the house?

Look at the color next to your house's brick, trim or siding before you commit. Dan in North Reading picked terracotta thinking it would be close but not exact; with gray brick mixed in and the walk laid in curves, he says it came out exactly as they wanted.

05How do estimates work in North Reading?

They are free. Call (781) 933-4157 on a weekday or use the estimate form, and tell us you are in North Reading and what you are planning. For walls and pool areas it helps to know where the slope runs, where water collects, and where any septic system or buried lines are.
